Diabetes Screening

posted in Pregnancy, Viewed: 565 times

I know I shouldn’t get too upset but I found out today I didn’t pass my gestational diabetes screening. This is the first screening which doesn’t mean I have diabetes. It simply means I need to go in for further tests. I was supposed to get below a 140 and instead I “scored” a 145…whatever that means. But all of this upsets me for a couple of reasons.

Firstly, I was told that no fasting was needed and I could eat whatever. So I had 1 donut in the morning. Boy did that backfire! I’m sure I didn’t pass due to 1dumb donut I shouldn’t have had in the first place.

The other reason I’m upset is the first test wasn’t that fun. I felt a bit nauseaus and disconnected after 1 hour. Now I have to do this for 3 hours!!

After talking to a number of women, I’m finding alot of them don’t pass their first test. So I feel better now compared to how I felt after finding out the results. It’s better to be safe than sorry. And perhaps this is a good reminder that I need to always remain focused on my diet.

Oh well.
