I’ve been wanting to change my career for some time now but usually get overwhelmed and decide better of it. This time I’ve decided to “just do it”. Even if it takes me a few years, I’ll continue to work toward my multiple subject certification which will enable me to be an elementary school teacher.

So far I’ve passed the first exam called the CBEST and now I’m working on the second test called CSET. The CSET is brutal. I think anyone who can pass this 2nd test should be able to teach at the junior college level! I’m focusing on 1 of the 3 sections and hope to pass the test in a couple of months.

But what I’m most excited about is the classroom volunteer opportunities I have. I’m not only volunteering for my nephew’s, Keshav’s, second grade class but I’ll also volunteer at one of our local elementary schools that have won awards. In a few weeks I’ll be working in a kindergarden class and soon after I’ll be able to try out the 1st, 3rd and 5th grade classes. Besides some good experience, this will provide me with some reference letters and hopefully some contacts for a future job.

While I know the end point is pretty far off, I really feel like I’m making big strides!
